Moe's Subs Crash the Martini's Party with 25-20 Clam Bake. It seemed like just a few weeks ago that the Martini's season long party was in full swing. Shot girls, funny hats, blenders, Coronaritas (margarita with a mini-Corona), midgets (sorry wrong year), Bruce Dostil cards, etc. The Martini's were having fun and leading in the playoff race, the number one team for the first half of the season. But the late season losses started piling up, first the Beagles 19-9 shocker back on 7/31, next the Playaz 27-3 pounding. Then, the key forfeit to Moe's over a month ago. Three losses in a row and now the Martini's find themselves in a must win game against the Drunken Clam's who's post-season aspirations ended last week with a loss to Alibi. Just two days ago Martini's manager tried to help the Clams take out Moe's by subbing for the Clams, today the tables have turned and it's the Moe's players (Mark Spotto, Joe Gianforte, Ryan Smith and later Matt Eisenberg) who came to the Clams aid to return the favor. Moe's needed a Clams upset to sneak into the final playoff spot and claim their place in the coveted Levine Standings. OK, OK enought talk, lets see what finally happened in this back and forth game. The Martini's strike first as John Sanzone singled, Bruce Dostal singled and Bob Fass singled, loading the bases for Jared Bruno who's sac fly scored the games first run. Frank Coppola follows Jared's lead with a sac of this own and the damage is limited to just two runs, Martini's 2 Clams 0. In the bottom the Clam's match the Martini's with three straight singles. John Boeckel(3-5), Mark Fedele (4-6) and Dave Auerbach(5-6). Then Jay Glickson doubled tying the game 2-2. Deron Green(4-6) followed Jay with a single, the first of Deron's 6 RBI's. Sub Mark Spotto's fielder's choice gave the Clams a 4-2 lead after 1. Martini's tie it in the 2nd when Jim Stathis singled, Rich Heim singled and the amazing Pat Russo(3-4) singled to score Jim. John Sanzone's sac fly ties it 4-4. Clams sub Ryan Smith reaches by error and John Boeckel singled again, Mark Fedele breaks the tie with a single to left center, Dave Auerbach singled scoring John, Daron Green light singles knocking in another, Lee Kornbluh(3-4) walked, sub Mark Spotto is getting this lefty thing down with a single to center scoring another, Joe Gianforte walks followed by a sub K and a John Boeckel single to score the 6th run and the Clams are up 10-4 and it's just the 2nd inning. It's a good thing this is not a weeknight game. Both teams score one in the 3rd, the Clams on a solo homer by Dave Auerbach. In the 4th the hot Pat Russo leads off with a single and scores on a single by Bob Fass. Clams lead is cut to 11-6 and the Clams don't score in the bottom of the 4th. Martini's take advantage when Michael Bedell singles, Christian Hansen singles followed by a run scoring error and a walk to the hot Pat Russo. John Sanzone singles scoring Pat and with two outs Bob Fass singles again scoring John and the Martini's are back, score tied 11-11. The Clams break out the hot sauce in the bottom as they rally to score 11 more runs on 13 hits. Dave Auerbach started the inning with a single, later Deron Green hits a big 2 run double and sub Mark Spotto does a lot of damage with a two run triple, sub Ryan Smith doubled and the hits kept on coming like a Mike Tyson fight. After the dust settled the Martini's find themselves in a hugh 22-11 hole. Fighting for their playoff lives the Martini's call for their secret weapon, a shot girl volunteers from the crowd and ignites some life as the Martini's cut the lead to 5 but that's how it ended, the Martini's are shot down by the Clams with the help of those Moe's subs. Mark Spotto 3-5, 4 RBI's. Joe Gianforte was on 3 of 5 times and Ryan Smith was 2-5 with one on by error. The subs scored 4 runs too. But the bit bat of the day was the Green Light Deron Green with 4 hits and 6 RBI's followed by Dave Auerbach with 5 hits and 4 RBI's, Mark Fedele and Jay Glickson both had 4 hits and how about Lee Kornbluh going 3-4 with a DOUBLE! For the losing Martini's Manager Bob Fass was 4-4 with 2 RBI's and Christian Hansen was 3-5 with a homer and 4 RBI's. Martin's is out, Moe's is in, playoffs tomorrow starting at 9:00.
