It's a Nice Night for a Softball Game. Play resumed tonight at 6:00 with #2 MacLaren's Pub taking on the #3 the Lusty Leopards in a battle for a first round bye in the playoffs. The weather was perfect and the game was started with a regular count till the 5th inning. Lusty struck first when Nick Adams jumped on the first pitch for a double down the line Clay Petry hit a single off the third baseman's glove. Brad Bennis singled Clay to second and Keith Blicht hit a deep fly to right that was caught moving Clay to third and Clay could have scored since MacLaren's was only playing with 8 player's and didn't have a catcher till Jon Weiner showed up. The next batter flew out and Clay doesn't score, Lusty leads 1-0. The first two MacLaren's batters make outs in the bottom of the 1st before Tom Baginski doubles. Jon Weiner shows up to bat and wastes no time doubling in Tom. The next batter reaches on error and Steve Wortman single in Jon, MacLaren's leads 2-1. Lusty fails to score in the 2nd and Larry Friedman leads off the bottom of the 2nd with a single followed by a Texas leaguer off the bat of Kevin Z Jr that just found a hole behind 2nd base. Marty Eagan singled to load the bases and David Drilling singled in two runs with a deep drive to right. Keith Blicht snags a scorching line drive off the bat of Tom Baginski for the second out but Jon Weiner come through again with a another double, this one is in the courts for another run, MacLaren's leads 5-1. Lusty answers back in the 3rd when the hot Matt Hall singles, then with one out Nick Adams singles again right down the 3rd baseline, Ryan Coletti works a walk to load the bases for Clay who scores one on an infield single, Keith Blicht beats the MacLaren's shift with a single through the empty short stop hole for two run and Dave Schachman singles in another for the 4th run of the inning, Lusty ties it, 5-5. In the 4th, both teams would score again and both for the last time. Matt Hall again gets things started for Lusty with a liner over 2nd, John Machiski singles and Nick Adams walks to load the bases. Ryan Coletti singles in one, Clay Petry gets an RBI on a fielder's choice but that was it, Lusty is up 7-5. With one out David Drillings reaches by error and Tom Baginski drills one that Ryan Coletti almost made a leaping grab but it falls in for a run scoring double, Jon Weiner is walked and Gray Drilling delivers a big single followed by another run scoring single by Steve Wortman. Next comes the last and would turned into the game winning hit. With the score tied 7-7, Kevin Zabransky singled to give MacLaren's a one run lead. It's was getting dark and we switched to the one and one count and neither team scored the rest of the way. With the one and one count Kevin Zabransky was able to get 3 Leopards to foul out and pitch MacLaren's to their 11th win of the season. Tom Baginski led all batters with a 3-4 night while Clay Petry was able to pick up 3 RBI's for Lusty.
