Calm's Rally Spoiled as Playaz Rake in Another Win 9-8. The Playaz defense was the story in this battle, raking in play after play. However a late game Clam surge put the tying run on second with just one out. The Clam's were on ice through the first 6 innings, only managing 1 run off 4 hits. The Playaz on the other hand, keep turning up the heat with a few runs in each inning. In the bottom of the 1st the Playaz Eric Rosenberg led off with a single, moved to second on a single by Shawn Spielberger and score on a single by John Spielberger. Shawn scored on a sac by Don Trifari and the Playaz take an early 2-0 lead. Neither team scored in the 2nd. The Clams score a run in the 3rd when Adam Handler singled, Adam Raiken walked and the injured John Boeckel doubled off the fence to score Adam. Playaz lead 2-1. In the bottom of the 3rd the Playaz answer with two outs when John Spielberger singled and scored on a double by Don Trifari who also scored on a single by Barry Davis, Playaz are up 4-1. Clams go down 1,2,3 in the 4th with John Spielberger making another great catch at the fence while the Playaz score another run with two outs. This time Jim Laden and Mike Levine both walk and Jim scored on a single by Eric Rosenberg, Playaz are up 5-1. The Clams threaten in the 5th when Mark Fedele and Bob Pezzuti both single with no outs but no runs score as Eric Rosenberg makes a leaping catch to end the inning. The Playaz do it again with two outs in the 5th when Barry Davis singled, Ralph Aiello singled and Austin Tarlowe singled just over the short fielder's glove to score Barry, then came the shot of the game, Jim Laden must have eaten some of Alex's spinich cause he blasted a deep double way over the left fielder's head scoring two more runs and the Playaz lead 8-1. The Clams start cooking in the 6th when John Boeckel(3-4) singled and Dave Auerbach lined a ball that bounced off the top of the fence for a two run homer. Ed Bitterle singled and with two outs Mark Fedele doubled off the courts in right scoring Ed. Clams cut the lead to 8-4. The Playaz picked up, what turned out to be a big run in the bottom of the 6th when Mark Johnson singled between the pitcher and catcher, then again with two out John Spielberger reaches on error and Mark scores on a single by Don Trifari, just off Jay Glickson's glove. Playaz are up 9-4 with the bottom of the Clams lineup due up, looks like the Playaz are gonna get an easy win, right? Wrong. The Clams bottom of the order Adam Handler and Lee Kornbluh both single and Adam Raiken walked and the bases are loaded with the top of the Clams order coming up. The hot John Boeckel doubled in two off the fence, Jay Glickson singles in a third and Dave Auerbach hits a deep sac fly to score another. Ed Bitterle singles off the pitcher's glove to move the tying run to second but the Clams make two straight outs to end it 9-8 and will now have to win out to stay in the playoff race.
