Moe's Puts the Clams on the Matt with 6-4 Takedown. Trailing 2-0 Matt Eisenberg sparks Moe's to a big 4 run 3rd inning with a key triple scoring Moe's first run. In this tight playoff race Moe's can still stay alive with a win and some help by MacLaren's Pub on Saturday. Maybe that's why Martini's manager Bob Fass is subbing for the Clams tonight since a Moe's loss would guarantee a playoff birth for Bob's Martini's. Here's what happened. Moe's fails to score in the 1st and the Clam's John Boeckel leads off with a single and doesn't score. Moe's comes up short in the 2nd and Clams pitcher Lee Kornbluh singles followed by the super subs Dave Plishka who singled and Bob Fass(3-3) who singled to load the bases for the top of the order. John Boeckel scores Lee on a fielder's choice. Manager Jay Glickson sacs in another run and the Clams take a 2-0 lead. Moe's wrestles back in the top of the 3rd when Jerry Fragetti gets a big lead off single, then smack, Matt Eisenberg rips a triple to right center scoring Jerry. Moe's top of the order is up and Ryan Smith wastes no time tying the score with a triple to left center. Ryan scores on a fielder's choice by manager Jim Morris, then Mark Spotto singles and Joe Gianforte rips the first of his two doubles to score Mark. Moe's is now up 4-2. In the bottom of the 4th the Clams snap back when lefty sub Bob Fass leads off with single then moves to second on a deep fly out by Joe Giordano. John Boeckel singles moving Bob to third and with two outs Dave Auerbach hits a clutch single scoring 2 to tie it 4-4. The Clams get in double trouble in the 5th with the top of Moe's order coming up. With one out Jim Morris doubles to the fence in right and then Mark Spotto follows with a double of his own to give Moe's a 5-4 lead. Joe Gianforte also doubles scoring Mark and Moe's goes up 6-4 and it's starting to get dark. In the bottom of the 5th trailing by 2 those super subs strike again as David Plishka works a one out walk, Bob Fass stays perfect with this third single and Joe Giordano walks to load the bases. Moe's bottom of the order is due up next inning and things are starking to look grim for Moes as the Clam's just turned over their lineup and their hot lead off batter is up with the bases loaded. Pitcher Joe Gianforte manages to get the batter to fly out for an infield fly rule and the next batter gounds out to second and Moe's holds on to it's slim 6-4 lead. Neither team scores in the 6th and the game is called due to darkness. Moe's gets it's much needed win over the Clam's and their super subs who were 4-5 with a walk and scored half the Clam's runs. This puts some pressure on the Martini's who need to win on Saturday vs the Clams. Bring the bagels and coffee Saturday, some great games are on tap.
